Cat Reman air starter motors such as part # 20R6875 are available in both vane and turbine types. Vane starters use rotating vanes that slide against the internal housing. They cost less and are more rugged, but usually require more frequent maintenance. Turbine starters have a turbine wheel that extracts power from compressed air. With no contact parts, they’re lighter and offer longer service life. While more expensive initially, turbine starters are quieter and offer longer service life with less frequent maintenance.
